Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Doctor and patient

You may or may not go to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) depending on the amount of anesthesia you received during your surgery. In the PACU, you will be closely monitored by a registered nurse until you are ready to go back to the Same Day Surgery area or to your pre-assigned room on one of the hospital units. You may be very sleepy and not remember much of your recovery. Rest assured you will be kept warm and comfortable with medications for nausea and/or pain if needed. While you are waking up in the PACU, the surgeon will visit with your family to give them information about the surgery.
