Urology Q&A

Q. Is there anything new in the treatment of kidney stones?

A. Most stones in either the kidney or the ureter (the tube that carries the urine from the kidney to the bladder) are now treated with a noninvasive shockwave technique called lithotripsy. We have access to the most modern equipment for treating stones on an outpatient basis.

Q. What are the current screening guidelines for prostate cancer?

A. The American Cancer Society recommends that men talk with their physicians about screening between ages 40 and 45 for men with a family history of prostate cancer or age 50 for those with no family history of prostate cancer.

Q. Are there new developments for the treatment of urinary incontinence in women?

A. Yes. There are several new products and procedures available for treating incontinence, including the new tension-free vaginal tape. Contact our office at 218.736.5905 for more details.

Q. When should I see a doctor for incontinence?

A. Generally, it's a good idea to call your doctor or schedule an appointment if you have a sudden onset of incontinence or if you're having enough accidents that either you need to wear a pad for urine absorption or incontinence is interfering with your lifestyle.
