Speech Therapy

Lake Region Healthcare offers a variety of speech-language pathology services on the rehabilitation unit to meet our patients’ needs. Speech-language pathologists are a part of the rehabilitation team who provide assessment and treatment services to patients with speech, language, cognitive or swallowing difficulties.

A person may be referred to a speech therapist for any of the following reasons:

  • Difficulty comprehending spoken or written language.
  • Difficulty expressing or communicating through speech or an alternative communication system.
  • Difficulty chewing or swallowing food or liquids (dysphagia).
  • Difficulty with cognitive-communicative abilities such as attention and concentration, learning new information, reasoning, judgment, and problem-solving relating to safety.
  • Difficulty with voice production such as pitch, loudness or resonance.
  • Difficulty with memory.
