How it Works and FAQ's
How it Works
Step 1: Register for the challenge. When you register, you'll be asked to set a goal for how many miles of exercise you'd like to complete by April 23
Step 2: Starting February 23, log your daily physical activity and report back to us each week with your total activity mileage.
Step 3: Follow along as we'll combine the activity from all participants to see how many miles we collectively exercised that week and where those miles take us on our trek to visit every US National Park during our challenge. Everyone who submits mileage in a given week will be eligible for a weekly prize drawing.
Success! If we reach our goal to visit every park by April 23, we'll draw for a grand prize Houseboat Trip on Minnesota's own Crane Lake in Voyageur's National Park.
DUE TO COVID-19, the Community Health Expo has been canceled, but we will still hold our drawing on April 23. Stay tuned for the announcement results.
How do I sign up?
You'll simply need to fill out this form to get registered. Then starting February 23rd, keep track of your daily physical activity
When is the deadline to join the challenge?

How can I enter to win the weekly prizes?
You are automatically entered if you have registered and are actively participating in the weekly tracking activities. Weekly prize winners will be notified by email and also featured in the weekly email communication to participants and posted on the challenge website.
What is the grand prize and when will it be drawn?
The grand prize is a travel voucher for a Houseboat Trip on Crane Lake in Minnesota's own Voyageur's National Park. The prize will be drawn during the community wellness Expo to be held from 5:30 to 8pm at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center in Fergus Falls on April 23, 2020. Additional prizes will be drawn for from eligible participants that night as well. UPDATE: DUE TO COVID-19, the Community Health Expo has been canceled, but we will still hold our drawing on April 23. Stay tuned for the announcement results.
Do I have to be present to win the grand prizes and other prizes?
Yes - You need to be present at the drawing at the Prairie Wetlands on April 23rd. UPDATE: DUE TO COVID-19, the Community Health Expo has been canceled and therefore the "present to win" requirement will not apply, but we will still hold our drawing on April 23. Stay tuned for the announcement results.
What counts for physical activity?
We use the CDC guidelines which recommend 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity activity, or 75 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity activity. Remember that your "steps" for regular daily activity should not be converted to miles that count toward physical activity.
We know 150 minutes each week sounds like a lot of time, but it's not. That's 2 hours and 30 minutes, about the same amount of time you might spend watching a movie. The good news is that you can spread your activity out during the week, so you don't have to do it all at once. You can even break it up into smaller chunks of time during the day. It's about what works best for you, as long as you're doing physical activity at a moderate or vigorous effort for at least 10 minutes at a time.
Remember also to record only the time spent performing the activity. If you are using a fitness tracker, please do not "double dip", meaning if you played racquetball continually for 1 hour and recorded 6 miles, you shouldn’t also record your pedometer reading during that time.
Is there a participation award or rewards for achieving my goals or exercising a certain number of miles?
Aside from the personal satisfaction & better health, you will also be awarded a custom Lake Region Healthcare Boonie Hat if you participate in at least four weeks of our challenge! This is also the minimum requirement to be eligible for the grand prize drawings. All participants who enter weekly mileage are eligible for that week's prize and for a participation pin awarded at the end of the challenge.
What if we have multiple family members who want to participate, but only one email address?
It's OK to use the same email address as long as each person registers under their own name.
I have a friend who doesn't have computer access - can they participate?
Yes. A paper entry and tracking form is available by request by calling 218.736.8193 to request a copy be mailed to you or can be made available to pick up at one of our locations.
