(FERGUS FALLS, Minn.) The Stalker Lake Golf Course (SLGC) held a successful fundraising tournament in July to benefit the Lake Region Healthcare Cancer Care and Research Center, bringing in over $10,650 for the cause.
The money was raised through a Women's Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament held on July 19th and other events hosted that week at the golf course and restaurant including a silent auction, a gift basket raffle, food & beverage sales and a Underwood Lions horse race. "Our tournament committee did an excellent job of organizing a great event and the community support was just fantastic," said SLGC owners Randy & Sheri Swonger. "We set our goal high and are so excited that together we reached it and are able to give back to the community in a way that affects so many people," they added.
Cancer Center Director, Jamie Nordick, said the funds donated to the Cancer Center will be used to directly impact patients receiving care there. "We want people who have supported this event to know their money does help their friends & neighbors getting care here at the cancer center by helping us offer free wigs to all patients, providing "Survivorship" grants to give assistance to patients who need help with living expenses while undergoing treatment, and offering comforts like food & activities to help them endure infusion treatments," Nordick said. She said funds are also used to help purchase very specialized medical devices that help improve patient care such as vein lites to assist with IV starts and to provide oncology-specific educational opportunities for staff. "We just can't say a big enough thank you to the Swonger's and to everyone who supported this event. It's a huge and heartwarming donation," Nordick said.
