Hannah Carlson Honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

(Fergus Falls, MN) – Hannah Carlson, RN in Lake Region Healthcare's (LRH) Women’s and Children’s Health Center, was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses at Lake Region Healthcare.
The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. Hannah’s nomination was made by a patient, Angie and said in part: "Our 18-month-old was a patient for five days with RSV and pneumonia. It was a very scary time but Hannah’s calm cheerful personality along with her great nursing care really helped put not only me at ease but, helped my little guy be less scared of being in the hospital. When my husband had to return home to our other children…I was extremely nervous knowing that our son’s hardest times breathing was during the night…I was so relieved when I saw Hannah walk in the room as our night nurse! She was able to not only keep me calm but my little guy completely fell in love with her and wanted her to sit in the chair and snuggle him which says a lot since he is fully in the stranger danger phase. Our family is so grateful for the amazing nurse she is and think she was definitely born for this job! She not only took excellent care of our little guy, she also made sure we have everything we needed so we could focus on him. We are so grateful to have her as our son’s nurse! She was exactly who we needed in our lives during such a scary time.”
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
