LRH Foundation Awards It’s First Healthcare Education Fund Scholarships to Staff

Lake Region Healthcare Foundation is pleased to announce the first recipients for their new Healthcare Education Fund Scholarship. In 2022 an Employee Education Fund was established by generous community donors for Lake Region Healthcare Enterprise employees seeking education or training to further develop their technical or professional abilities that will enhance patient care and/or the ability to accomplish Lake Region Healthcare’s mission and vision.

Finalists were selected by a committee of employees from the LRHC Enterprise who appraised information submitted by the finalists. Applications were asked to submit a letter detailing the need and benefits of the education or training and how it will enhance their ability to provide exceptional patient care or to achieve our mission and vision, along with a personal statement describing their commitment to Lake Region Healthcare.

"Lake Region Healthcare Foundation would like to extend our congratulations to the recipients of the first Healthcare Education Fund Scholarship, said Foundation Chair, Andrew Yaggie. "We are glad to support the efforts of those in our community who want to pursue advanced careers in healthcare to enhance and improve the patient care experience.”

About the Scholarship Recipients

Tierza Thormodson is an Intensive Care Registered Nurse at Lake Region Healthcare and is pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice at the University of Mary. Thormodson stated in her application, “I wish to demonstrate the hospital’s values through my service to the community for years to come, while implementing Lake Region’s mission to enrich the lives of others through health.”

Michelle Wentland is the Clinic Nurse Manager at Lake Region Healthcare and is pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing. Wentland states, “By advancing my education I can help our communities to thrive by education them to improve and manage their health.”

DeeAnna Hanson is a Pharmacist at Lake Region Healthcare and will be completing her board-certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist Exam. Hanson explains, “Pharmacists who complete these trainings and pass the necessary certifications exams are known to stand out as the most qualified to take on today’s expanding expectations of patients, physicians, employers, and others who recognize the increasing need for a team approach to healthcare, according to the Board of Pharmacy Specialties.”

Dane Carlson is the Revenue Cycle and HIM Director at Lake Region Healthcare. Dane is completing his BS in Health Information Management at Western Governors University. Carlson states, “Expanding my knowledge in health information practices will help guide decisions that will positively impact patient experiences at LRH.”

Tori Hull is a Registered Nurse at Lake Region Healthcare and is pursuing a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree at University of North Dakota. Hull explains in her application, “Mental health is continuing to become more accepted idea in today’s work that of years prior. However, in rural areas of America, the concept of mental illness remains ostracized from physical health. Being a native of central Minnesota, I hope to spread awareness of mental illness and treatment options for those suffering.”

Andrea Posey is a Coding Education Specialist at Lake Region Healthcare and is currently enrolled in the AAPC Certified Evaluation and Management Coder Program through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Posey states, “Through my role as coding educator the CEMC certification will help me develop the tools and knowledge necessary to lead our coding team to greater success through education. I am committed to Lake Region Healthcare and our vision to provide an exceptional health care experience for our community.”
