New platform connects wearables to track physical activity, bonus points for doing good deeds
(FERGUS FALLS, Minn.) – Lake Region Healthcare (LRH) is posing yet another challenge to the community in the form of a community health challenge called “Do Good. Feel Good.” The challenge has a later start this year, launching this week and going through May 15th
The challenge is focused on promoting more physical activity for better health, but also promotes the health benefits of doing good for others. An optional fundraising component seeks to do good for cancer patients with the option to donate to the LRH Foundation’s Chemo Chair replacement project.
“We know the past year has been tough. With COVID-related isolation we’ve seen many people experience a decrease in motivation to be active or workout, and a loss of human connections in many areas of our lives,” said Natalie Knutson, Wellness Director at LRH. For those reasons, she said LRH chose a health challenge theme to address both issues.
“The science behind exercise improving better physical and mental health is well-known. It’s a lesser-known fact that science is also beginning to show direct correlation to improved health from activities geared toward doing good things for others like random acts of kindness or expressing gratitude,” she said. This challenge will help build skills at all of those things, with a grand prize that reinforces it too. The grand prize winner this year will win $1,000 cash to keep for themselves, along with another $1,000 to give away to a person or a cause of their choice.
“We can’t wait to see the ripple effect of what comes out of this challenge,” Knutson said.
Both individuals and teams can sign up at no charge, with the team option serving as the organization’s “Corporate Cup” competition this year. Participants can find more information about the challenge, links to register, connect their fitness wearables, manually record challenge activities, view weekly progress and more through the links on the challenge website www.lrhc.org/healthchallenge.
To be eligible for the grand prize, participants must register by April 24th and participate in a minimum number of activities. Full rules are available on the challenge website.
